Meeting Miranda

"Mum guess who I saw today?" she said before I could even say "Hello" into my cell phone.

Through the static of my 'operable by speaker mode only' cell phone (actually my son's old cell phone) I heard the excitement but struggled to get the words as she continued.

"Miranda?" I shouted back, "What about Miranda?"

More excitement, more static and, "I met her" "I had my photo taken with her"

"But who Miranda, what about her?", I shout right back- again.

She does not hear me and goes on, "She is so beautiful, even better in real life, with very good skin...very lovely, so beautiful"

Well, whoever it is, it sure must have been an up close encounter for my daughter to be so excited and have been so observant.

"Where was she? What about her", I'm still trying to get a word in.

"She was with her son".

"Who?" I try again..

"And her minder, and guess what? I was the last one to have my photo taken with her." "Afterwards another girl wanted her picture taken and the minder said no more pictures..."

More huffing and puffing as I hear the sounds and sirens of NYC in the background and realize she is walking.

"I have no idea who you are talking about..", I try to remain calm

"Miranda, mama- MIRANDA!.." as if I should know, because there is only one Miranda on this planet.

"From Sex in the City Miranda, Mummy!!- Cynthia Nixon!!" she shouted again, as if she was talking to a dodo.

Ah, characters, characters- why do they get to us? Now, if she would have only said Cynthia Nixon the first time, I may have stumbled a bit, but jogged my memory and would have known- of course the name rings a bell, but let me put a face..10 seconds tops! It was the "Miranda, Miranda" that was confounding me.

"Ah, I see, how exciting!" I say and want to know more, "so where was she?"

"At the 2008 Komen New York City Race for the Cure, where I was volunteering today..Central Park". "She is the Grand Marshall for the Race...she looks amazing in person...much much better than in Sex in the City.."

I let my daughter ramble on, once again living vicariously through her.

"ahhh so awesomely cool!!!:-)" comments a friend of hers, on her Facebook album.

I agree!
